Boghos Aghassi

Boghos Aghassi

Armenian artist Boghos Aghassi began painting and sculpting at a young age. He enrolled at the Art College of Armenia in 1981, and later continued his education at the Academia di Belle Arti di Venezia. Aghassi doesn’t believe in explaining his work. To him, titles and descriptions are obstacles to viewing art. He believes the viewer should see whatever he wants to in an artwork. His paintings and sculptures are concentrated displays of experiences and emotions. Aghassi’s art is his statement.

Many Gallery owners, Art collectors, critics and admirers from around the world have shown their appreciation for his unique original oil painting series exhibited around the world. Aghassi’s canvases mostly convey his thoughts and emotions; he makes his statements through his art. To him, art is what’s beautiful and real. His exquisite taste and the ability of manipulating oil on canvas is once again seen in the series “Mystical”. His subtle colors, mixed with the harmony of light and shadow, are undoubtedly intoxicating. His experience in Venice, where he studied painting and sculpting, is present in his work mostly through his characters and in the mixture of renaissance and contemporary. The blurry and sometimes absent faces is his way of allowing the viewer to identify with his art which makes his style reach out to art lovers from the most sophisticated taste to the most ordinary. At once gloomy and exhilarating, proud and seductive, his pieces have a bold and daring posture. While contemplating his work, the viewers almost always make the same remarks; “He does his canvases like the old masters used to do it”, “Modern day Rembrandt”, “This is what Real Art should look like, not like what most contemporary artists have to offer”. We will have his new “Magic” series comprising of 10 paintings done exclusively for the Okapi World Art Gallery, Dubai on display at the Inauguration.
